Protest on the Page conference

Just attended the Protest on the Page conference in Madison, and spoke on African American scrapbooks on a panel with Susan Stanfield, who spoke on how free women of color used the abolitionist press, and Adam Thomas, on how periodicals attacked Reconstruction. Interesting work to rub elbows with. Liberation News Service and its subscribers were the topics of several papers — a chance to be on the other side of the microscope, since I worked there for a time. I wonder what the scrapbook makers I write about would think of how I read their scrapbooks?
